Clock Tower Park
Friend in the Forest
She stares at her reflection, hazy in the
distance, as the water carries her
beyond the bridge.
Dividing counties, countries, worlds.
Hers is the edge, neither city
nor forest,
a thin veil where we learn to be free
before fleeing to the city to connect.
To earn the life that she once had,
growing up on the edge,
a place to which she’ll always return,
although through the sunbeams
it’s unclear what her future will hold.
Only she knows there’ll be obstacles
to overcome, and friends who will
always support her when she falls,
and the trees will always be greener
the other side.
